Re: The Hunger Site
Sat, June 2, 2007 - 6:14 AMSomeone here on Tribe had (has?) one of the modules on her profile dedicated to advertise the Hunger Site.
Her profile inspired me to visit the site. The site seems to have a great idea by offering inexpensive handmade items, made by artisans from countries all around the world, for sale. The proceeds would go to fight hunger in the country of origin of the item you purchased. The site details how many people would be fed with the proceeds of the sale of every item pictured. There's jewelry, clothing, bags, very attractive glass art containing candles and many other things.
It also gave the option of purchasing livestock for a family (goats were listed, perhaps other animals as well. I don't remember).
Every click you make on the site reportedly contributes to the fight against global hunger.
I don't know anything about the organization that owns the site (that I didn't read on their own site). All I can tell you about the authenticity of the site is that the fraud protection feature of my Opera browser (great, super fast & FREE browser, by the way - www.opera.com/download/ ) listed it as a "VERIFIED SITE - This site has been verified by a trusted third party and is not listed on Opera's blacklist of suspected fraud sites."
It seems like a neat site. :-)
